India’s Rise Under Modi’s Leadership: A Path to Global Prominence

Jagath Jayaprakash

May 10, 2024, 11:51 am IST

The previous decade emerged as a notable era characterized by significant change and revitalization within India’s rich historical records. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the central figure in this transformation. His exceptional leadership has not only reshaped Indian administration but has also established India as a rapidly growing global giant. Upon contemplation of Modi’s term, it becomes apparent that his innovative and influential leadership approach has played a crucial role in driving India to unparalleled success, surpassing even the United Kingdom to become the fifth-largest economy in the world.

An Innovative Plan for a Future India

Upon assuming power in May 2014, Narendra Modi faced a critical juncture in India’s development, characterized by economic stagnation, bureaucratic slowness, and little international recognition. Modi’s leadership, distinguished by audacious changes and an unwavering dedication to progress, has had a transformative impact. The government’s emphasis on maintaining macroeconomic stability, making solid investments, and achieving comprehensive GDP growth, which includes Governance, Development, and Performance, has established the basis for a revitalized India.

Under Modi’s leadership, India has seen an average GDP growth rate of 7.6% in the 12 months leading up to the third quarter of 2023. This growth rate has been higher than other developing nations and has occurred despite global economic downturn tendencies. The robustness of the economy may be attributed to Modi’s strategic measures, such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana to promote financial inclusion, the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to establish a unified tax system, and the Make in India program aimed at enhancing manufacturing.

Converting obstacles into favourable circumstances

Modi’s leadership is defined by his adeptness at converting obstacles into opportunities. Despite the alleged controversy, the demonetization measure implemented in 2016 stimulated the digitalization process and formalized the economy, resulting in increased transparency and efficiency. Similarly, implementing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in 2015 has simplified the process of resolving insolvency cases, thereby boosting investor trust and improving the overall business environment.

During Modi’s term, significant progress has been made in infrastructure development. This includes a fivefold growth in road transport infrastructure, the electrification of villages, and tap water distribution to nearly 14 crore rural homes via the Jal Jeevan Mission. These measures have not only enhanced the standard of living for millions but have also established the foundation for long-term economic development.

India’s Position in the Global Arena

India, under Modi’s influential leadership, has not only enhanced its economic fundamentals but has also shown its prominence on the international platform. India’s recent achievement of successfully landing Chandrayaan-3 on the moon and launching the first mission solely focused on watching the sun exemplifies the country’s growing expertise in the fields of science and technology. In addition, Modi’s diplomatic efforts, including hosting the G20 summit and cultivating robust relationships with significant global allies, have enhanced India’s standing on the world stage.

The Path Forward

India’s progress towards achieving developed country status by 2047, the centennial of its independence, is greatly influenced by Modi’s transformational leadership. His goal of a Viksit Bharat, a Developed India, is not only an abstract aspiration but a concrete actuality under progress. The trip up till now has been motivating, but the future path is brimming with even more potential and possibility.

Ultimately, Narendra Modi’s term as Prime Minister has been a time of significant transformation and advancement for India. His innovative leadership approach has not only rejuvenated the Indian economy but has also repositioned India as a decisive power in the international arena. India is progressing towards its future with confidence, thanks to the firm base established by a leader whose vision, drive, and patriotism have inspired the hopes and dreams of a billion people. The tale of India’s rise under Modi is more than simply a chronicle of economic triumph; it is a tribute to the unwavering determination of a country ready to fulfill its potential as a global powerhouse.
